This is not a quality label but simply a way for FYFFES to say to the consumer that a banana from FYFFES is a quality product. I have removed the quality tag.

This is not a quality label but simply a way for FYFFES to say to the consumer that a banana from FYFFES is a quality product. And yes Michael and Nick are right it is in dutch. I have removed the quality tag.

Hi fellow collectors,
it's my first post here, but will be uploading a few nice oldies with information soon.
I just wanted to share a fantastic documentary for all of you to enjoy.

The Fyffes with the white rim is rather simple, but please watch the film (link below) to see the fantastic story behind this label from the early 30's. Take a look at 16:00 to see how the place the Fyffes labels on the bananas.
At 18:00 you see a closeup clearly showing the label and how they stick on the bananas more like a stamp rather than a sticker. This film from 1931 ist a very beautiful documentation of probably the earliest use of banana labels.
Fyffes started simultaneously with the use of labels in several European countries, with slight differences in the design of the label. The white rim version was for Denmark and distributed by Andreas Wilhelm Kirkebye, who had also his own label which is also in the catalog.

Here the link to the film. Hope it works for you:

According to Fyffes this is the very first label ever known (from 1929) and the version I have is from one of the first prints that Fyffes made (the glue on the back only comes in action when you add water, like stamps). It comes from Fyffes in Ireland back in the ’90, where they found the labels in a drawer of an old closet they were going to throw out.
In comparison the first Chiquita labels were issued around 1960.

Nick (2016-10-19)

This label was used in Scandinavia, especially Norway.

Kvalitets Merke = Quality Label
If Dansk: "Mærke", so probably Norway?

Michael (2016-10-18)

Gedeponeerd Merk (Dutch) = marka registra
