AFC

Summarized company history

Since the foundation in 1912, AFC is providing the German market with fruits. Originally, AFC commenced its operations by importing dried bananas, known as fig-bananas.

In the 1920's and 1930's AFC managed to break into nearly all of the European markets by buildung and employing company-owned reefer vessels.

From 1950 onwards AFC organized banana imports from Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil jointly with other importers in order to reduce costs and to meet the requirements of an ever increasing demand.

In 1957 AFC focused its imports solely on Middle- and South America due to a root disease putting a stop to the commitment in Liberia.

In 1967 AFC changed from shipping bananas in bunches to bananas in boxes instead.

In 1968 AFC established the brand name ONKEL TUCA for their bananas.

Along with a re-lauch in 1995 the label ONKEL TUCA was given fresher image in line with trends.
